Three Indian workers who had a weekend alcohol drinking binge in Sonapur labour camp area of Dubai, started a brawl that resulted in the murder of the Tamilian worker on Friday night.

Two friends who jointly stabbed the Tamil worker, are currently in police custody.

According to sources familiar with the workers death that send shockwaves across the labour camp residents, the three men - all from Tamil Nadu, India, were having a drinking session in an open area behind the Sonapur labour camp when a fight erupted after one of the friends started abusing his friend's mother.

“The workers were having a mid-night drinking party and the problem started when one started abusing the mother of his friend. They started a physical fight and the abuser took out a knife from his pocket and stabbed the other man on his head. He sustained severe stab injuries on his head; he then took back the knife and stabbed him several times with the help of his third partner,” said a source familiar with the case.

The triangular fight resulted in the death of the man who abused his friends and serious head injuries to the second man.

After killing the friends, the duo absconded from the scene, one of them with serious head wound injuries.

However, the murder was reported to Dubai Police but other workers who knew the situation did not reveal the details. A special investigation team reportedly spotted the culprits who were hiding in Al Qouz and Al Ain City.

One of the accused murderer was hiding with an Indian family in Al Qouz area and the second accused who sustained serious head injury was booked from the Al Ain city.

“Sonapur labour camp area has an informal, but illegal drinking area and illicit liquor sale is rampant. By sending just a miss call, liquor is available at the door stop. They hide liquor even in gutter. Especially on Weekends, many workers indulge in drinking and end up fighting," said a social worker.

“Most of the time fights are for trivial matters because these workers are stressed out," said a source.
