A mother of six children has died allegedly due to a weight-loss surgery at private hospital in Sharjah.
According to her family members, quoted in Arabic daily Al Khaleej, the mother was suffering from obesity, but died 24 hours after a weight-loss operation.
According to medical reports quoted by the report, “There is a risk in the operation because the large mass of her body.”
The surgeon who performed the operation said in his statement to the public prosecution that he had the necessary tests and the surgery lasted 4 hours.
He said he removed 21kg of fat and excess skin and the deceased was in stable condition after the operation.
“The victim was in intensive care as is the routine in these cases. Her health was good and she also talked to me,” he said.
He said: “I was summoned by the hospital management when the situation of the patient worsened.
“I tried to revive her heart and took all necessary actions to save her life, but she died.”
A forensic medical report quoted in the report states the cause of the death due to a fatty increase in the lungs which affected her ability to breathe.
This report also stated that there was bleeding.
The surgeon and the anesthesiologist are on trial before the Misdemeanor Court in Dubai.
