Over 16 liquor bottles recovered from truck

Customs men at the UAE’s Ghuweifat border point seized more than 16,000 liquor bottles concealed in a vegetable truck just before it crossed the border to another Arab country, a newspaper reported on Friday.

Authorities in Ghuweifat near the border with Saudi Arabia and Qatar stopped the truck after receiving a tip off it carried an illegal shipment.

After a search through the vegetable boxes, inspectors found around 16,713 liquor bottles of various brands concealed expertly among the boxes.

The Arabic language daily Alkhaleej said the bottles were confiscated and the truck’s Arab driver and his friend were arrested.
