'Peeping mobile' filmed woman staffer in toilet

An Egyptian clerk allegedly placed his mobile phone in the false ceiling of the company’s toilet and recorded pictures of his female colleague, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The victim, SA, 28, Egyptian sales executive, was in the office together with her colleague AA, 35, clerk and the accused AI, 25, who is a brother of the company’s manager.

SA needed to go to the toilet but as AI was already in the wash room, she returned to her desk and asked her friend AA to let her know when AI comes out as AA could see the toilet from her place. AA informed the victim when AI came out of the toilet. However, AI returned immediately to the toilet and stayed there for about ten minutes.

“I got into the toilet behind him, and while I was there, I noticed a red light coming from between the edge of the false ceiling. I looked there and found a mobile phone in recording mode. I called my friend who entered the toilet and I told her about the mobile,” the victim testified.

The mobile belonged to AI who also entered the toilet and pulled it out, claiming that he had put it there to dry it. The victim then snatched the mobile from his hand, wanting to see what was recorded in it. Her colleague accused him of recording them in the toilet.

After snatching the accused’s mobile, the victim ran to an adjacent office while her colleague tried to call his brother, the manager, on her mobile. But the accused ran after the accused, hit her and snatched the mobile back from the victim and prevented the victim’s colleague from informing his brother.

The victim reported the attack to the police who arrived and arrested the accused. Searching his mobile, it was found out that he had deleted a recording made on the same day at the time claimed by the victim. But police could not retrieve the deleted material.

The accused claimed that he did not know how to make or delete a recording.

The Court will reconvene on February 2.
