Dubai police arrested three more Emirati men involved in an attack on Kuwaitis participating in a jet ski championship in Dubai, bringing the total men held to seven, a senior police officer was reported on Monday as saying.

“They all will face justice, which will be achieved in the UAE,” said Major General Khamis Al Mazinah, Deputy Commander of Dubai Police.

Quoted by the Arabic language daily 'Emarat Al Youm', he said all the assailants are young men between 18 and early 20 years. He said the key defendant in the case is an Emirati participant in the jet ski contest.

Kuwait hails UAE action

Meanwhile, the UAE's speedy action against the attackers were lauded by President of Kuwaiti Sea Sports Club (KSSC) Major-General Fahad Ahmad Al-Fahad.

Al Fahad, in a statement, said such individual acts are not representative of the manners of the people of the UAE and cannot not affect the brotherly historical ties between the UAE and Kuwait.

The Kuwaiti official hailed the stance of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister as well as the Dubai International Marine Club, the UAE Marine Sports Association and the Emirati sports enthusiasts who all condemned the attack on Kuwaiti jet skiers.

The major suspect and other individuals involved in attacking the Kuwait jet ski team members in Dubai were arrested on Sunday upon orders from Sheikh Mohammed.

The behaviour of this skier is totally unacceptable and made him subject to serious consequence…he will face legal measures while he will also face punishment by those in charge of the championship,” said  Al Mazinah.

Another senior police officer said the defendants reported that only two Emiratis were involved in the attack as the others did not intervene.

“They said the attackers used only their hands but Kuwaiti players said the Emiratis used stocks in their attack,” said Brigadier Khalil al Mansoori, director of the criminal investigation department in Dubai.
