A 38-year-old policeman is accused of stealing belongings of dead people received by the Dubai Police Forensic Medicine Department which filed against him two cases, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

In the first case, IAS, 38, from Comoros, is accused of stealing belongings of the late Lingrag Saho Kasi including two rings, silver necklace Rs20 and one Kuwaiti Dinar in addition to a precious watch.

Captain Sulaiman Abddullah, 35, testified that the department discovered the missing belongings of the dead when it was to be delivered to the Indian Consulate. Confronting the accused with the theft he first denied then admitted to it, he testified.

In the second case, IAS is accused of stealing belongings of late Mohsen Abdul Hamid amounting to Dh2,000.

First Corporal Amer Shafee, 29, who is the direct supervisor of the accused in the Forensic Medicine Department, testified that the accused was assigned to receive and deliver dead people in addition to keeping in custody their belongings. “A policeman in the department told me about Dh2,000 missing from the total amount that the deceased had when he died. This came to our knowledge when parents of the dead came to receive his body.”

He had Dh15,839 in addition to US$200. The remaining amount was Dh13,839. Confronting the accused about the missing money, he initially denied then confessed to stealing it.

The court adjourned the two cases till November 17.
