A real estate manager allegedly abused a tenant over the telephone during last Ramadan over a rent dispute, the Dubai Misdemeanour Court heard.

On July 22 last year, the victim, OK, Jordanian, complained that AA, 35, American manager of a real estate company, had abused him over the phone.

“I called the real estate company, answering a missed call from them. MA, an employee of the company, answered the phone and said he did not call me. However, MA checked with AA if he had called me,” OK testified.

AA spoke to the tenant and cursed him. The tenant claimed that AA told him: “Curse be your religion and your father, you son of a dog.”

AA denied to the police of saying that to the tenant. “I deny that. I spoke to him a week before informing him of the need to renew his lease. He was upset as the company had prevented him from using the parking space. I informed him that this was the company’s steps against those who fail to renew their leases on time. I told him that he should renew his lease to get his parking space back. The tenant spoke impolitely, telling me that if I was a real man I should meet him. I only asked him to speak politely,” AA told the police.

The tenant denied AA’s story and said that he had been insulted by AA who also threatened to take him to court. Police heard the testimony of the company’s employee who had first answered the tenant’s phone call.

“After checking with AA if he gave the tenant missed call, the latter picked up the phone and started talking to him. After about a minute, I heard him cursing the tenant. However, I later came to know that the tenant had also insulted AA,” testified the employee.

AA was not present in the Court and the case was scheduled for April 1.
