An Arab driver caught doing more than 200 km in Ras Al Khaimah was sentenced to two months in jail and banned from driving for one year. He was also fined Dh5,000.

RAK traffic police said last week they tried to alert the driver to reduce speed and stop his car but he ignored their warning and fled to the eastern oasis town of Al Ain, where he was later arrested.

Speed cameras showed the unidentified motorist exceeded 200 km per hour and kept up his speed on his way towards Al Ain.

“The traffic court sentenced him to two months in prison and fined him Dh5,000…it also ordered the impounding of his driving licence for one year,” Alkhaleej Arabic language daily said.
