An Abu Dhabi criminal court sentenced four Emiratis to three years in prison after they were convicted of raping an Uzbek woman.
The woman had told court she was getting out of a hotel in the capital when one of the four offered her a lift, adding that she got into the car because she knew him and that she thought he was alone.
As he drove away, another man who was hiding in the back seat emerged out and started to treat her roughly.
They then took her to an isolated desert area, where they raped her. The two later phoned two friends, who came to the scene and raped the woman.
The four men had denied rape charges and their defence lawyer said the woman was only trying to extort them.
