Robbed while praying…thief nabbed

A thief waited for an Iraqi businessman in Dubai to go into the mosque for evening prayers, smashed his car window and snatched nearly Dh183,000.

A few hours later, he was caught.

Ajja Hajim, in Dubai since 1997, said he had left the money in his car and went to pray in a mosque in Aweer area. When he retuned to the car, he found the rear window broken and the money had gone.

“I phoned the police, who came to the scene in a very short period of time…they assured me that I will get back my money and this gave me great comfort,” he said, quoted by the Dubai-based 'Emarat Al Youm' newspaper.

“A few hours later, they phoned me to say they have caught the thief and retrieved my money…I would like to thank these policemen for their swift action and the reassuring and civilized way in which they dealt with me.”
