A 32-year-old Pakistani woman who fled Dubai to her home country weeks after murdering a Pakistani man returned to the emirate this week, preferring to face UAE justice over staying underground in fear of revenge by the victim’s relatives, a newspaper reported on Monday.

After several weeks of negotiations, Dubai’s police succeeded in persuading the woman to return to the emirate so she can get a fair trial and avert being killed by the stalking relatives of the victim, ‘Al Ittihad’ said.

Upon return, the woman confessed to the murder of the 45-year-old man with the help of a relative, saying she had done so because he had been pressing her to sleep with him after she was locked in a dud cheque problem with him.

“We have negotiated with the woman for weeks after succeeding in locating her hiding place in Pakistan,” said Brigadier Khalil Al Mansoori, director of Dubai’s detectives and criminal investigation department.

“She told us that the victim would not leave her alone and was pressing her to have sex with him, prompting her to plot to end his life….we convinced her to return to Dubai and face a fair trial…we told her that the UAE judicial laws take into consideration honour issues in such cases.”

Criminal investigation chief Lt Colonel Ahmed Al Mirri said the woman murdered that man in July after she arrived in the emirate and met him through an investment project.

“We have been told that he was visiting her at her house frequently…he was later found dead with many stabs in his body….investigation showed that the woman had brought her relative from Pakistani on a visit visa a day before the murder then both of them fled Dubai after committing the crime.”

He said her willingness to return to face justice would be taken into consideration, adding that her accomplice has been reported to Interpol despite her claims that she perpetrated the crime.
