An Iranian sailor allegedly possessed for sale more than 50kg of hashish, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

QN, 25, is also accused of taking methadone in Dubai.

Dubai Police Anti-Narcotics Department received a tip off about an Iranian sailor who intended to handover 50kg of hashish to a police informer for Dh10,000, his charge for transporting the narcotic.

A policeman was assigned to communicate with the dealer and get a sample.

“While communicating with the dealer through the informer, I asked him for a sample. H asked me to go to the public toilet at Anchor 5. I went there and did not see anybody. I enquired about the dealer’s location. The dealer, who did not appear at the scene, informed that I should pick a plastic sack at the toilet’s window. I found the sack which I handed it to the Anti-Narcotics Department,” said Corporal Juma.

A police officer was assigned to arrest the accused while handing over the drug. The officer accompanied the informer and went to Anchor 5 where the drug was to be handed over.

A man, wearing shorts only, appeared, dragging a large sack. When he put the sack in the car, policemen hiding at the scene arrested him.

The accused denied knowing that the sack contained drugs and claimed that a man called Farshad had asked him to hand over a water pump and collect Dh10,000.

The sailor denied the smuggling and dealing in drugs when appeared before the court.

He claimed before the jury that he was asked by his captain to deliver a water pump to a car that was near the boat.

The accused also denied taking drugs and said that when he fell ill while sailing, a crew staff had given him some medicine.

The court adjourned the case until February 1.
