A school bus supervisor used her stick to club a nine-year old student on his way back home from school in Fujairah, causing severe swelling on his legs and prompting his father to report the incident to authorities, press reports said on Tuesday.

Emirates Transport officials said they would open an investigation into the incident and vowed to take tough action against the woman.

Fujairah Education Zone said it was not aware of the incident but the boy’s father, Ali Hassan, told the Arabic language daily Al Khaleej his son was returning home in the bus when he was beaten.

He said the female supervisor of the bus, identified as KA, hit his son on the leg, accusing him of throwing paint on the bus floor.

“I took my son to the hospital for treatment. He suffered from swelling on the leg as a result of the beating,” he said.

Quoted by Al Khaleej, Emirates Transport director in the eastern coast, Mohammed Saeed, said his administration is investigating the incident to determine whether it took place inside or outside the bus.

“My management does not tolerate such incidents and will deterrent measures in case the beating is proved,” he said.

Disaster averted at Khor Fakkan school
Massive metal umbrella collapses as students were off

Students at a Khor Fakkan school escaped a disaster when strong winds uprooted a massive metal umbrella in the main hall while they were off school to prepare for mid year examinations.

The umbrella had been shaken and was on the verge of collapse because of storms last week but was repaired and re-installed.

On Monday, strong winds led to the dislocation of the umbrella which collapsed and hit the school ground, Albayan newspaper said.

“Students escaped a disaster as they were off school to prepare for the examination...no one was in school and no one was hurt,” the paper said, quoting Haifa Qassoom, head of education buildings at the Sharjah education zone.

She said the zone had contacted the Ministry of Pubic Works to rebuild the umbrella before students return to school.
