A secretary allegedly stole four cheques from a federal sports institution where he worked and forged them in his favour to steal Dh68,000, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

OSM, 24, Egyptian is accused of stealing cheques, forging them and taking public money for himself.

NMI, 46, accountant, testified that he discovered that four cheques that he was sure he had not issued, were missing from two cheque books.

He found out that the value of the first cheque was Dh8,000 and other two for Dh30,000 each.

OSM, the accused, sought a meeting with an administrator. During the meeting, OSM told him that he had stolen the blank cheques and forged the signatures of employees authorised to issue cheques.  He then collected the amounts written in his favour as he was badly in need for money.

The fourth cheque was found in a bag in his car.

The administrator took him to his seniors who reported the incident to the police.

The court will reconvene on November 18.
