Security officer turns thief at night

An accountant who suspected theft, installed a camera and connected it to his e-mail and succeeded in capturing the thief red handed, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

MYI, 37, Indian, accountant in a consultancy company, testified that between Dh500 to Dh 1,000 would go missing every month which he used to replace from his pocket as he did not expect anyone to steal from the safe.

 “Last February, I suspected that there must indeed be a thief when I found that Dh10,000 was missing. I installed a camera and linked it with my e-mail. Opening my e-mail I found a number of pictures been taken by the camera. It was the security officer whose pictures were  captured by the camera. I told the manager who informed the police,” he testified.

Police arrested ZFM, Indian, 41, who admitted to entering the company several times, taking advantage of the fact that he had a spare key and stealing different amounts from the safe in the accountant’s office.

ZFM confessed to transferring the stolen amounts to his family back home and supplied the police with money transfer receipts.
The prosecution asked the court to give a stiff penalty for the accused. The court adjourned the case for verdict until July 11.
