Sharjah Police have launched investigations into the accident that killed an Indian elevator maintenance worker in a building in the Al Buteena area of the emirate.

The man, in his 30s, was working in the elevator shaft when the elevator fell on him, trapping him in between the wall and the lift itself, according to Sharjah Police.

On receiving a call at 1.30pm about the incident, the Sharjah Police Operations room dispatched rapid intervention units, ambulance and rescue units to the building.

According to Major Ali Al Naqbi, the worker, identified as HUX, performed the functions of cleaning the facades and entrances to the elevator.

The incident took place on the third floor of the building.

Major Naqbi explains that the man’s co-workers tried to rescue him, but took too long to inform the police.

On arrival of the police the man was already dead.

Sharjah Police have called on the public to inform the police as soon as possible in the case of such accidents.

The police have also called on maintenance companies to follow the highest levels of security and safety to not put workers at risk.
