Sharjah Police have arrested two people for alleged murder of a 31-year-old Afghan national.
According to the police, one of the two is a half-brother of the victim. Both the arrested people were trying to flee the UAE, police said.
An Afghan national had informed the police that a blood-stained dead body of a man is lying in a tyre warehouse in the emirate’s Industrial Zone 3.
Police said the dead man’s skull appeared to have been crushed by a heavy blow to the right side of the head.
Police said suspicion fell on two of the four people with whom the victim lived. Investigations revealed that the victim was always at odds with one of them who was his half-brother.
During questioning, one of them admitted that he had asked the half-brother of the victim to lend him some money and the other had agreed to give him Dh5,000 if he killed his half-brother. He said he had done the deed because he was badly in need of money. He said he had tried to kill the victim several times but did not succeed.
He admitted to the police that 10 days before the crime, the half-brother had brought him a small, sharp axe.
On the day of the crime, when the two arrested people saw the victim standing alone late at night, one of them struck the victim with the axe on his head and face.
After killing him, they left the place and dumped the axe in the sea.
Police said the half brother has confessed that he saw the victim being killed by the other man.
Brigadier Abdullah Al Dukhan, deputy commander of Sharjah Police, praised investigators for the speedy arrest of the two people despite little evidence.
In an attempt to mislead the police, the instigator of the crime expressed much sorrow when the dead body of his half-brother was found, Al Dukhan said.
