Sharjah police have seized a large number of illegal pornographic films which they believe are to blame for the surge in pedophile incidents in the emirate.

Almost all the CD films have been smuggled from South Asian countries by “local gangs” targeting expatriate workers, most of whom are either bachelors or live away from their families, Emirat Alyoum daily said, quoting police.

The films have been seized during raids carried out jointly by police and other competent authorities on workers’ living quarters, shops and other suspected places as part of a crackdown on illegal and fake products.

“We are in the process of launching a wide awareness campaign to warn families against such products and get their cooperation,” said Colonel Sultan Abdullah al Khayal, information director at Sharjah organized crime department.

“Most of those films have been smuggled by local gangs from south Asian countries…they copy these films on CDs here and distribute them to bachelors and Asian workers in industrial areas…these films could be a major reason for the surge in child molestation crimes reported in the emirate as such crimes had almost been non-existent before…this is because these films are also reaching groceries and other small shops located inside residential areas.”

He told Emarat Alyoum daily that a recent police study showed most of child molesters have confessed to have watched porno films, adding that some case involved rape and murder of the victim.

An Egyptian bus driver will be deported after serving one year in jail for allegedly molesting a female passenger on board.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced MMY, 35, to one-year imprisonment followed by deportation after he was found guilty of molesting the Filipina.

The victim, JAM, 32, telephone operator, testified that she took a RTA bus at 9am on March 14. All passengers got off the bus and she was alone in the bus; the driver continued driving after the last passenger got down.

“As we arrived at the main gate of Dubai Investment, the door did not open. I tried to open it but I could not. I told the driver about that… but he instead asked me for a kiss…I refused and tried to open the door… he jumped from his seat and stepped towards me….

He groped me inappropriately. Even as I was shouting at him, he was trying to kiss me….It's only when I threatened to inform the police that he opened the door and I got down. Later, I informed the police,” she testified.

Man murders wife on way to honeymoon

An Algerian bride was allegedly salughtered to death by her husband while they were on their honeymoon.

According to a report in Al Shorouq, the 24-year-old woman was a highly qualified lecturer at a college. She had recently married the peon from the same college.

The duo was on honeymoon when the man allegedly devised a plan to do away with her. He is accused of murdering her and dumping her body in a garbage bin.

He later returned home casually and made up stories about his new bride's disappearance. However, when the police discovered the body and interrogated him, he confessed to the crime.

The exact reason for his act and his modus operandi is not yet known. While his brother claimed extra-marital affair as a reason, the girl's family say she was in love with him.

Cop impersonator targeting pub girls held

Abu Dhabi Police arrested a Gulf man who used a fake police card to rob and molest girls just as they step out of night clubs in the capital’s hotels.

Police said they had deployed detectives at many hotels after receiving reports from many women about a man who robbed them of their money and mobile phones after showing them a police ID.

Based on descriptions provided by the girls for the man and his car, police later arrested the suspect, who confessed to his crimes.

“He was pretending to be a policeman to frighten those girls and molest them before taking their money, mobile phones and jewelry,” said Brigadier Maktoum Al Shareefi, head of the Capital police.

Chinese girl’s killer seeks time to get pardon

A criminal court in Fujairah adjourned hearing of a murder case for the third time on Monday after the Pakistani killer told the judge his father was trying to persuade the victim’s relatives to pardon him.

The defendant had been arrested on charges of murdering the Chinese woman in the emirate by slitting her throat after raping her. He then stole nearly Dh80 in her possession before fleeing her apartment.

The unnamed killer had confessed to the murder but it was not clear if his father is offering diya (blood money) for the victim’s family in return for a pardon.

"The court adjourned hearings to July 24 for the third time after the defendant asked for time so his father can get pardon from the victim’s family,” the Arabic language daily Alkhaleej said.

Under Islamic law, a killer can avert execution and walk free if forgiven by the victim’s relatives in return for diya.
