An Abu Dhabi criminal court sentenced an Arab man to four years in prison and ordered his deportation from the UAE after he was convicted of trying to smuggle drugs in his shoes, newspapers reported on Monday.
Customs men had suspected the man on his arrival at Abu Dhabi airport and subjected him for a luggage search, they said.
The drugs were found in a pair of shoes stuffed inside his clothes although the man denied knowledge of the narcotics, saying a friend had given him the shoes as a gift.
