A Lebanese businessman and five Syrian drivers are accused of possessing for sale drug tablets worth more than Dh1.3 million, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

In July last year, Dubai Police received a tip-off that businessman AF, 38, and MA, 47, driver, possess ‘Captagon’ tablets and are looking for buyers.

Through an informer, police arranged to arrest the two red handed.

A policeman pretended to be a buyer and showed interest in buying the drugs for Dh1.3 million. Police arranged the amount and handed it to the ‘buyer’ who went to International City to meet the dealers along with the informer. The handing over operation was under the supervision of a police squad.

AF initially brought a sample of the Captagon tablets and asked them to change the location of the handing over operation.

However, on the next day, the drug dealer informed the buyer of his interest to hand over the tablets at the same place at 9.15pm.

The ‘buyer’ and the informer drove to the location under the supervision of policemen in a civilian car.

Two men were seen observing the location.

AF arrived in a car and was seen carrying a bag and heading to the ‘buyer’s’ car. He put the bag in the boot and entered the car.

The ‘buyer’ then gave the agreed-upon signal and the police squad rushed and arrested AF and his companion MA.

Police also arrested BN and SA who were seen observing the area.

The Lebanese businessman claimed that he had received the drug from BN, 27, who had asked him to sell the drugs against commission of Dh20,000.

Police later arrested KN, 30, AN, 27 for their involvement in the case.
