A supermarket in the Dubai Silicon Oasis area has been burgled of Dh90,000, telephone cards and 20 passports of employees. The thieves did not forget to take away the hard disk of the computer that records the CCTV footages of people who enter the shop.

The Green Park Supermarket located on the ground floor of Park Avenue Office Tower in Dubai Silicon Oasis was broken into by thieves on Tuesday night.

“We closed the shop at about 1am and the robbery was noticed when we returned to reopen the shop on Wednesday morning,” said an employee.
The heavy steel safe in which money, 20 passports of employees and telephone cards were kept is also missing. The day’s collection of Dh90,000 was kept in the safe.

“It appears that the thieves broke the main lock of the shop with a drilling machine. Only the LCD screen of the computer was left behind. The CPU unit which contained CCTV footages was taken away. So there is no video footage of the criminals,” said a manager at the supermarket close to the Dubai Men’s College.

The relatively big shop has now reopened after the police took forensic evidence from the scene of the crime.

It appears that the burglars were wearing gloves as they did not leave behind their finger prints.

The supermarket, owned by Nissar Muthona and Farooq Keezhpara from Kannur, Kerala, has been operating in Silicon Oasis for a few years and is one of the busiest in the.

Many supermarket break-ins were reported recently from Ajman, Dubai and Sharjah, besides a high profile daylight robbery of two cash bags carried by Transguard employees in front of Lulu Village in Al Ghusais.

As supermarket customers watched, two bags of cash containing Dh2 million, which was to be used to refill ATMs, were snatched away after the guards were attacked with steel punches and laser guns.

Police recently arrested a gang from the International City, who were found to be sitting in their car with tools used for breaking locks and doors.
