Sri Lankan actress allegedly gang raped on New Year’s eve

A popular Sri Lankan stage actress has accused four men of raping her on New Year’s eve.

The actress, who is a divorcee with a child, claims that while she was returning after watching a musical show in Kadirana area, Negombo, one of the suspects stopped her forcibly gagged her. He dragged her on to a secluded place by the roadside and allegedly raped her. Then she claims that he called the other three men from his mobile phone. And all three allegedly took turns and molested her, reported Gossip Lanka News’.

They abandoned her and fled the scene after committing the crime. Hearing her wails, the neighbours rescued her and rushed her to the hospital.

Based on her statements police arrested her landlord, which led to the arrest of two army men and another person. She recognised her landlord’s voice while she was being molested. Apparently the three men are his other tenants and they stay in the same building.

The suspects are landlord PF 54; two airforce men - ULJ 26; SS 40; and a carpenter BP 32.

They have been remanded to custody until January 15, while investigations continue.

According to Ceylon Today, the actress, who had separated from her husband around six months ago, had been staying at a residence in Kadirana, where the suspects too are said to be tenants.

Air Force Spokesperson, Group Captain Shiraz Jaldeen, confirmed that the two Air Force personnel were arrested and said disciplinary action will be taken against them after a court ruling is given.
