Storekeeper jailed for stealing alcohol barrels

A 42-year-old Indian assistant store keeper in a marine company was sentenced to six months in jail followed by deportation for stealing 38 empty alcohol storage barrels by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance.

According to the records, a Bangladeshi worker AQI, 34, suspected BFM who was loading alcohol barrels on a lorry from a hotel that did business with his employer.

“When I asked him about the reason, he claimed that he was assigned by his employer to do it. I suspected him because his duty for the day was over. So I asked him to show me the record of delivery and receipt. He claimed that it is in the car.

“When he went to bring it from the car, he ran away with the other two who were with him. I informed his senior of the matter,” AQI testified.

The company’s British manager JAO, 42, testified that he saw the accused while loading empty alcohol barrels from a hotel on his truck.

“When I confronted him, he confessed to stealing 38 empty barrels of$100-150 each. So police were informed,” he testified.

The accused admitted to stealing about 25 barrels from his employer with the help of the other two.
