Student attacks man with sword in Al Qusais, jailed

An Emirati student received one-year jail by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance for assaulting a compatriot with sword and causing him 15 per cent permanent disability.

The Court records showed that the 45-year-old victim SA was standing in front of his house in Al Qusais on May 17, 2013 when the accused YA, 21, approached him holding a sword in his hand.

“He attacked me with the sword. I ran away and entered a house to escape attack. However, he chased me and strike on my left hand with the sword,” testified the victim.

Medical report showed that the victim sustained 15 per cent permanent disability in his left hand.

The accused admitted attacking the victim. However records did not mention reason behind the attack.
