Swaying car exposes Fujairah drunk driver

An Asian man and his friend had a few bottles of liquor, got in his car and drove back home in Fujairah, not realising the vehicle was swaying right and left on the road.

Curious policemen who happened to be in the area noticed the car could not stick to one lane, causing confusion to the traffic.

When they stopped the car, they instantly knew the driver was drunk as the smell of alcohol pervaded their nostrils.

A court sentenced the driver to 80 lashes and fined him Dh20,000 while his friend was also ordered lashed 80 times.

A court of appeals later slashed the fine to Dh3,000 but upheld the lashing verdict.
