Taxi driver attempted to rape passenger

A taxi driver allegedly attempted to have sex with a passenger who was under the influence of alcohol. She escaped being raped by pretending that she was about to vomit, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

OS, Kyrgystani, 26, testified that at around 3am on September 13 she stopped a taxi at Lutos Hotel on Al Riqqa Street and asked the driver to drop her at Abu Hail area where she stays with her sister. She sat in the back seat.

“I noticed that he took another way and then towards the beach where she could saw see lights coming from villas. I was scared. I took off a plastic sticker which carried the details of the car that was placed on the window and kept it in my bag without being seen by the driver. I asked him why he stopped there and threatened to call the police, but he did not give me any attention. I tried to open the door but it was locked. He jumped from his seat to the back seat and tried to rape me for about three minutes. I was resisting him but he was very strong. I made the sound of vomiting, so he opened the door and let me out. He then drove away,” she testified.

The victim took another taxi to Al Muraqqabat police station and reported the incident. She confessed to taking alcohol and narrated the crime.  From the plastic sticker, police identified the company and the driver whom she recognised when he was brought to the police station.

Forensic reported bruises on her body that proved her resistance.
