A nurse at an Abu Dhabi hospital finished her work late night and returned home by a taxi, which dropped her on the main road near where she lives. Just after the car left and she began walking, a strong hand grabbed her head.

The shocked woman turned around and saw a masked man. When she managed to wrest his mask off, he was so furious that he bit off part of her face before snatching her mobile phone and running away.

The thief, who turned out to be Asian, was arrested a few days later. But his arrest cost a policeman part of his finger as the thief used his teeth again as if he has been influenced by a Zombie film.

After three plastic surgeries, the unnamed nurse decided to return to her home country for further treatment and to ease her trauma although her sister in the UAE told court that she still sees nightmares.

The incident took place on Murour Road in the capital’s outskirts during Eid Al Adha in November during a quiet night. The thief made the mistake of his life when he stole the victim’s mobile phone and answered her sister’s call later.

“After many conversations for a few days at the request of police, the victim’s sister succeeding in persuading the thief to meet her, saying she wants to see him for a date and that she can not tell police about him because she is staying in the country illegally,” the Dubai-based Albayan daily said.

“The thief took the bait and agreed to meet her at the same place where he mugged her sister….he came with a mask on his face again and police man were waiting somewhere in the area….once he answered her phone call again, they were on him…he put up tough resistance during his arrest, resulting in the injury of a cop’s arm and the loss of a part of another cop’s finger after it was bitten by the thief…it took many policemen to force the thief’s teeth off that cop’s fingers but only after a piece was in his mouth.”

Albayan said the court postponed sentence to February 28, adding that the Asian man claimed he was beaten up by the police.
