Thieves break into villa, steal Dh500,000 in gold

Six Chinese visitors allegedly broke into a villa in Dubai’s Barsha 3 area and stole gold bullion and jewellery and precious watches worth more than Dh588,000.

On July 16, 2015, at around 9.30pm, AA, 37, Emirati, and his wife discovered that someone had broken into their villa through its kitchen door and damaged the wardrobe.

Searching for their costly belongings, the couple discovered that jewellery and precious watches had been stolen from the wardrobe after burglars had broken its lock.
 
The missing jewellery included six pieces of gold bullion worth Dh150,000, a diamond set worth Dh40,000 and two diamond and gold sets worth Dh200,000.

Besides these, the thieves stole a gold necklace worth Dh15,000, five gold sets and rings worth Dh 75,000, three gold bracelets of Dh90,000 and a precious watch worth Dh18,000. A piece of bullion that had late Sheikh Zayed’s picture, bracelets, necklets and a watch were also missing.

Police investigated the complaints and. on July 22, stopped two Chinese men who were walking late at night in the same area suspiciously.

Policeman Bader Ibrahim said tools usually used in thefts and gloves were found in a black bag in their possession.

Police also stopped a car in the area and confiscated jewellery and precious watches from it. Two other Chinese men were arrested.

The four accused guided police to two other compatriots and police confiscated a large collection of jewellery from their house.

The accused admitted that three of them climbed the villa’s wall after sunset while the rest were observing the area.

The three inside the villa broke the kitchen door and the safe box in the wardrobe and stole jewellery and gold bullion.

Two of the accused, aged between 47 and 24, admitted only to picking up and transporting the thieves to and from the villa using a company car and a private car.

Police confiscated gloves and tools that carried the DNA of some of the accused.

Police found out that the accused had committed two others thefts, one in Rashidiya and another in Bur Dubai, which are being investigated.

The court will reconvene on February 2.
