The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced two Indians to three months in jail followed by deportation for attempting to steal 170 kilos of copper worth Dh16,000 value.

According to the records, a policeman on patrol foiled the theft attempt when he became suspicious of the workers.

Corporal Sultan bin Hilal, 38, testified that he became suspicious of a worker when he tried to hide when his police patrol was passing by a store in Al Rumool area at 5.15pm on April 6.

Sultan, who was accompanied by his colleague Ali Abbas, stopped and stepped towards the store. “The door was open and there were a large number of sacks containing copper sheets near the door. On asking the worker in the store about the sacks, he confessed that he and another colleague were moving the copper to sell them as scrap to a Pakistani. We arrested SK and RM. The company’s manager, ANG, 48, British, was immediately informed by the police about the theft attempt,” he testified.
