A 35-year-old Iranian salesman, NJF, was sentenced to seven years in jail for smuggling and possessing 2,357 Tramadol tablets for sale.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance also ordered NJF to pay a fine of Dh50,000 and be deported after serving his jail term.

NBD, 40, Iranian clerk, who was accused by the prosecution of helping NJF was acquitted by the court.

According to the records, NJF was arrested at Dubai Airport on May 27 after Tramadol tablets were found in his suitcase.

“Initially he denied knowing anything about the tablets that were found in his suitcase. Later he confessed that the tablets were handed over to him by someone in Iran who asked him to give it to someone in Abu Dhabi,” testified inspector Ibtisam Mattar.

Captain Yaser Saeed testified that NBD was trapped by the police via NJF. “The two were made to meet under police control. NBD was arrested red handed while receiving the tablets from NJF. Police found in his possesion some Tramadol tablets other than those handed over by the passenger,” he testified.
