Twins get suspended jail for threatening hunter

A criminal court in Fujairah sentenced two twin brothers to suspended six months in jail after they threatened to kill an Emirati who hunted hubara bustard birds in their area, a newspaper said on Wednesday.

The man had been tempted by the large number of those birds flocking to Haniyya area to practise his hunting hobby, unaware of the reason why the birds come to that area in big numbers.

“He later found out that a system used in luring birds had been installed there…as he finished hunting and was about to leave the area, two twin brothers intercepted his car,” Alkhaleej said.

“They threatened to kill him if he comes back to hunt hubara birds in their area…the court sentenced them to suspended six months in prison.”

Hunting of hubara, which is used in falconing in the Gulf, is banned in most areas in the UAE within an ongoing conversation drive involving scores of endangered animals and birds.
