The UAE’s top court acquitted two doctors of charges of causing the death of a patient after deciding that they were not directly responsible for her demise.
A court of first instance had earlier found the two doctors guilty. It fined them Dh20,000 and ordered them to pay Dh200,000 diya (blood money) to the patient’s relatives, prompting the prosecutor to appeal the verdict.
An appeals court acquitted the two of all charges, pushing the prosecutor to appeal with the Federal Supreme Court, which upheld that ruling.
“The FSC found that negligence by the two doctors was not directly responsible for the patient’s death,” Emirat Alyoum daily said without mentioning in which emirate the incident took place.
