Abu Dhabi International Airport’s customs inspectors recently foiled two attempts to smuggle narcotics into the UAE, one of which saw an Asian passenger try to bring in over 2kg of crystal meth.

A customs inspector became suspicious of an anxious traveller and summoned him for inspection. A white substance was found hidden in the inner frames of the traveller's bag, which turned out to be 2.245 kg of crystalline methamphetamine.

The seizure came after customs inspectors had foiled another narcotics smuggling attempt by an Arab traveller. Because of the passenger’s nervousness, a customs inspector insisted that the traveller be searched, which revealed 13.78g of hashish and 45 Tramadol pills, weighing 25.14g, hidden inside the passengers’s shoe. It is forbidden to posses Tramadol without a doctor’s prescription in the UAE.
