UAE gunfight: Drug traffickers open fire at cops near Bani Yas

Two policemen are injured and are receiving treatment after they were shot at by drug dealers in Bani Yas on Monday.

On receving reliable information about an Emirati and an Yemini involved in trafficking, the Abu Dhabi Police Anti-Narcotics Department set up a trap to nab the culprits.

The two undercover cops contacted the suspects and struck a deal. They agreed to give the policemen 20kg of hashish for Dh228,000.

The police officials decided to nab them red-handed and waited for the suspects at the predecided spot at Bani Yas.

One of the suspects first approached the undercover cops and asked for cash. After checking the amount he called out for his accomplice to come over with the substance. However, the second suspect suspected a foul play and opened fire at the two policemen and fled the scene. He was arrested after a couple of hours by Frontier Guards.

The first suspect was arrested on the spot by police patrols who rushed to the scene after the shoot-out.
