A criminal court in Al Ain trying a man accused of murdering his ex-fiance adjourned hearings to late this month after the victim’s relatives refused to pardon him and insisted on his death, press reports said on Thursday.

The defendant had denied he was involved in the murder of 21-year-old Eman but her relatives swore in court that her ex-fiancee was behind her death.

Eman was reported missing in January and police investigation showed her ex-fiancee was the killer. The prosecution told court the man had confessed to police that he took Eman to a desert area, killed her and buried her there.

“The man denied he was involved in the murder during hearings yesterday…he said he made the confession under duress,” Emirat Alyoum daily said.

“Eman’s father and other relatives swore in court they are convinced her ex-fiancee murdered her because he had tried many times to return to her but was rebuffed…they told court they insist on his death under Sharia law.”

The court adjourned hearings to November 27 at the request of the defence lawyer, the paper said.
