A thief, trying to escape from the grip of the villa owner he planned to steal from, was nabbed by police after he left his shoes behind.

While on the run his shoes came off, leaving behind crucial evidence. This clue helped the police to locate him.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance awarded him one year in jail followed by deportation.

According to the records, MH, 27, Bangladeshi, climbed the fence of a villa in Umm Suqeim. He used a screw driver to break into the house.

He groped the leg of the sleeping woman after he stole her mobile. This alerted the Jordanian family who started shouting and screaming at the stranger.

The thief left the mobile and tried to escape but the husband tried to stop the intruder who ran away leaving behind one of his shoes.

MY, 44, engineer testified that he woke up hearing his wife scream.
 
“I caught the man in our bedroom who tried to fight me back trying and loosen my grip. In the tussle he tore his shirt off and released himself. He then ran away leaving behind his shoe,” he testified.

The man reported the theft to the police who rushed to the crime scene with a police dog. With the help of sniffer dog the accused was caught and recognized during the identification parade.

The accused admitted to entering the house of the victim. He was referred to the Court for four accusations - house burglary, molestation, assault and entering a house against the will of its occupant.
