Visitor gets 7 years in jail for smuggling drug

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced an Iranian visitor to seven years in jail for smuggling 2.4kg of methamphetamine in a secret pocket in his luggage.

MRR was also ordered to pay a fine of Dh50,000 and to be deported after serving his jail term.

Customs Inspector Jamal Mattar testified that on January 25 while was on duty at around 1.30am, he suspected MRR, a visitor, as his bag was abnormally thick. Searching the bag, he found a secret pocket that contained a powder. When confronted, the visitor confessed to smuggling methamphetamine weighing 2.4kg.
