Two Chinese visitors allegedly broke into a villa and stole a laptop and a golden ring that they threw away when they saw a police patrol in the area, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The resident of the villa in Al Safa area, PL, 29, manager, testified that in the morning of May 26, 2011, he woke up and realised that his laptop and gold ring worth Dh500 had been missing from the hall downstairs; he, however, immediately notified the police about the theft.

Police arrested KT, 43, and JK, 32, in connection with a number of theft complaints in the same area.

Raiding their flat in Naif area, police confiscated some stuff in addition to screw drivers. The two confessed to the accusation and led to the villa.

They also admitted to breaking into a number of villas in the same night and stealing laptops, small amounts of money and some other stuff.

They claimed that they threw the items they had stolen when they saw a police patrol in the neighbourhood.

However, DNA test of a laptop bag confiscated with the accused carried fingerprints of the victim as well as one of the accused.

The Court will reconvene on October 11.
