An employee realised that her unused mobile phone that she kept in the drawer had been stolen only when she received a bill of Dh3,600, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The victim MSA, 25, an employee at the Ministry of Environment and Water, testified that she kept her mobile phone in the office drawer in December 2010  but found that it was missing only in May 2011.

“I found out that the mobile which I was keeping in the drawer was missing when I received a bill of Dh3,600, so I reported the theft to the police who found out that BK, 25, a Nepali cleaner in the ministry, was using it and that he also used to call his colleague using my SIM card as the Etisalat statement showed,” she testified.

His colleague admitted that the accused had stolen the mobile phone of the victim and that he used to call him using it.

The court adjourned the case for verdict until July 24.
