An Abu Dhabi Criminal Court sentenced an Arab man convicted of raping several women in the capital to 10 years in prison for two rape cases, bringing the total period to which he has so far been sentenced to 25 years.

The sentence could still be increased further as the defendant is to stand trial on charges of raping a fifth woman inside an elevator.

A court had earlier sentenced the man to 15 years for rape and other charges following testimonies by his victims, mostly Asian women.

“The defendant has so far been sentenced to 25 years in jail and ordered deported from the UAE. He will stand trial on charges of raping a fifth woman,” Dubai-based Emirat Al Youm, the Arabic language daily, said.

The prosecutor told court the defendant had stalked his victims, aged between 26 and 30 years, at building entrances late night before attacking them inside elevators.

During trial last week, he demanded acquittal, claiming he is mentally ill.
