Woman jailed for 10 years for smuggling drugs

A South African transit passenger was sentenced to 10 years in jail for transporting drugs.

MMS, 38, was also ordered to pay Dh50,000 fine and deportation after serving her jail terms.

According to the records, MMS was hidding more than 1.8kgs of cocaine in her underwear and was suspected by a policeman upon her arrival in Dubai International Airport on July 4 at around 10.30pm.

Corporal Nasim Deen asked policewoman Bahr Al Zein Bilal, to search the passenger. Searching her luggage, she did not find anything. Applying personal search, the policewoman suspected her… so she asked her to take off her swollen underwear .

The policewoman found three pieces had been wrapped in plastic and scotch tape and hidden in her underwear. The police woman handed over the confiscated material which proved to be 1.875kgs of cocaine.

Corporal Nasim Deen testified that he suspected the transit passenger who looked worried and afraid and was walking very slowly so he asked the policewoman for personal search.
