A Turkish woman allegedly broke into a flat and stole jewellery and gold worth about half-a-million dirham in addition to Dh175,000 in cash one evening, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The fingerprints of KY, 36, who was serving a jail term in a similar theft, was found at the crime scene.

On September 29, 2013, at around 6.30pm, DI, 40, an Iraqi, took her mother to Dubai Hospital.

After about two hours, she returned home.

“I was shocked when I saw that the door open and the lock was broken. The lights were on as well when I was sure that I had switched them off.

"Heading to the bedroom, I found the lock of the wardrobe broken and the drawer was emptied out. It had jewellery worth Dh500,000 and Dh175,000 cash,” said the victim.

She told the police that the jewellery belonged to her daughter and sister and herself and the cash was hers and her mother’s.

Police lifted fingerprints from the scene and found one that matched with KY, 36, a Turkish woman who was serving her jail term for another theft.

The court will sentence the accused on February 10.
