Worker jailed for taking Dh200 bribe

A court in the eastern port of Khorfakkan sentenced an Arab worker at a government car test centre to five years in jail and ordered his deportation from the UAE after he was found guilty of taking Dh200 bribe.

Police arrested the defendant after his workmate reported that he received a bribe from a car rent manager for a quick test of the company’s vehicles.

A Court of First Instance had sentenced the defendant to five years in prison, prompting him to appeal. The Court of Appeals upheld that verdict.
