MF, 25, Pakistani, who slit his Afghan sponsor’s throat in his bedroom following a financial dispute and stole Dh200,000 from his room, was sentenced to life in jail term for premeditated murder by a Dubai Court.

Compatriot, MM, 22, who was accompanying the convict while visiting the sponsor and who told investigators that he had seen MF slit the victim’s throat, was sentenced to 10 years in jail for premeditated murder.

According to the records, at around 4.15am on December 11, 35-year-old MQ, Afghan salesman, who was the victim’s roommate, returned home after spending the night with some friends in a coffee shop.

“When I entered the bed room, I saw FH on the floor between the bed and the wall in a pool of blood. I got very scared and rushed to my friends in the adjacent flat and told them. They rushed to the bedroom which was in a mess with blood stains on the walls and the floor. We called the police,” the roommate told investigators.

The roommate had left the flat at around 11.30pm, leaving the victim with two men, MF and MM, who worked for the victim. The two were doing some work for the victim.

According to him, the two workers knew that the victim kept his money in a safe in the flat which was also used as an office. “They were working together and there was no problem at the time I left the flat,” the roommate told investigators.

Investigating the murder case, police discovered that MF, one of the two men who were with the victim at night, had financial disputes with the victim. The police also learnt that MF did not report to work on the day following the murder, so he was considered a prime suspect.

Later in the day, police learnt about a Pakistani businessman MA, 35, a relative of MF, who lived in Sharjah. Police obtained permission to arrest the relative of the prime suspect.  Searching his house, police confiscated about Dh200,000 in addition to $14,080.

“Asking him about the source of the money, MA admitted that he got the money from his relative who had fought with his sponsor and wounded him with a carton cutting blade before stealing money from his house and fleeing,” Captain Abdul Rahman Salem told investigators.

“On December 11, my relative and another man, whom I did not know before, came to me at around 7.30am. They were in abnormal condition. The other man had wounds on his face. Asking what the problem was, my relative told me that he had a fight with his employer and had left him in a pool of blood in his flat. He also told me that he had emptied the safe before fleeing with his colleague and friend. He asked me to help him to flee the country to Oman. I suggested to him to leave the money with me as it is difficult to smuggle such a large amount of money. He agreed,” MA, the relative of the main suspect told investigators.

The relative called a friend, MJ, 28, and asked him to arrange the escape of the two men and agreed on Dh5,000 as fee for the service.

Police arrested MJ from his house in Sharjah. He admitted to arranging for the escape of the two men. However, he denied knowing what their problem was.

“When I asked them why they want to go to Oman, they told me that they had some problems without giving any details. I did that for money,” MJ admitted.

MJ took the amount and handed  over the two accused to another person in Al Ain. While he was with the police, MA (relative of prime suspect) received a call from his relative who had reached Al Ain with the other man. They asked him to send them Dh20,000 from the money they had stolen in case they need it during his escape. MA asked them to personally come to Sharjah to collect the amount they needed. Police trapped and arrested the two men when they came to MA’s accommodation in the evening to collect the amount.

“I had a fight with our sponsor while I was in his flat doing some accounting work while MM was downloading software on his computer. He blamed me for not registering some mobile phone deals in the records. He abused me, went to the kitchen and attacked me with a blade used for cutting cartons,” MF, who had been working for the victim for eight months, told investigators.

“I was trying to defend myself. MM intervened and tried to stop the fight but our sponsor wounded his face with the blade. MM left us fighting and went to the bathroom to wash his wounds. I pushed our sponsor to the floor and, while trying to control his hand in which he was holding the weapon, the blade passed over his neck and wounded him,” the prime suspect told investigators, denying any intention of killing his sponsor.

When the electronic technician returned from the bathroom, he admitted to seeing his co-worker sitting over his sponsor and cutting his neck.

“Before leaving the flat, MF rushed to the safe and opened it using the key that the victim kept on the desk.  He emptied the safe and gave me one of the three bundles of money that he took,” MM told investigators, denying any participation in the theft.

Forensic reported that wounds on the hands and the neck of the victim were defensive in nature. The DNA of blood stains removed from light switches of the bathroom and the hall in addition to the handle of the safe, were of both the victim and the technician. Blood stains were also found in the kitchen.

Based on evidences collected from the scene of the crime, Dubai Prosecution was convinced that both had attacked their employer, cut his neck and robbed him. The prosecution accused MA, 23, and MJ, 28 of helping the killers to flee.

MA was accused of possessing money with the knowledge that it is derived from murder. The two accused denied the accusation of premeditated murder.

The accused denied all charges when he first appeared before the court.  The court sentenced MA to five years in jail for helping criminals flee the UAE. The court however, acquitted MJ from the same charge. The three convicts were also ordered to be deported after serving their jail term.
