The Dubai Criminal Court acquitted BJG, a 41-year-old yacht builder from Iceland, of forging and using a forged document.

The Prosecution had transferred BJG to the court on the accusation  of forging a document against which he gained a court sentence to his favour from the Abu Dhabi Court ordering an Emirati to pay him Dh4 million being the value of a yacht.

MJI, 41, Emirati, checked the case file after the verdict of the Abu Dhabi Court and suspected a forgery in the power of attorney document submitted by the plaintiff.

“I suspected the power of attorney document attested overseas and by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Dubai office as it was not as per rules. I took a copy of the power of attorney and showed it to the judge and told him about my suspicions about the document.

“The Abu Dhabi  judicial authorities, in coordination with the Ministry of the Exterior, found out that the signatures and seals of its office in Dubai had been forged.

“On October 25, 2011, I lodged a complaint with the police and the case was referred to Dubai as the forgery was related to the ministry’s office in Dubai,” he testified.

The Dubai Prosecution accused BJG of forging a power of attorney document attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Dubai office.

According to the lawyer of the yacht maker, in 2010 he lodged a case against MJI in the Abu Dhabi Court for refusing to return a yacht that he had sent to him. He had failed to pay after receiving the yacht.

The Abu Dhabi Court ordered MJI to pay the value of the yacht to the plaintiff. The yacht maker denied the accusation of forgery when he first appeared before the Court.
