A Saudi judge sentenced a local man to eight years in prison and ordered him lashed 800 times inside shopping malls visited mostly by women after he found him guilty of blackmailing nearly 100 girls, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.
The judge, infuriated by the man’s confession that he extorted money from those women through their photographs, also fined him SR80,000 (Dh79,000).
The unnamed defendant, in his 30s, confessed that he used pictures he got from girls and married women on facebook to threaten to them to give him money or he would publicize them, Okaz Arabic language daily said.
It quoted police as saying they found a large number of pictures of those girls in the man’s mobile phones and laptops and that he confessed to using them to extort money.
