An Arab man practicing traditional Koran treatment (Raqi) told a Saudi court he was misled the jinn (spirits) when he molested his female clients. But the judge was not convinced and sentenced him to seven years in jail and 1,000 lashes.

Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the Gulf Kingdom’s most feared Islamic police, had arrested the man following reports by several women treated by him that he touched sensitive organs of their bodies.

A court in the western Red Sea port of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia’s second largest city, convicted him of molestation and practising Roqayya (Koran treatment) without licence.

“He was sentenced to seven years in prison and ordered lashed 1,000 times…the court  also ordered his deportation,” Okaz daily said, adding that the 40-year-old man appealed the verdict.
