Saudi Arabia’s religious police arrested five Africans for swindling nearly SR1.1 million ($300,000) from a local man after claiming they can treat him and his wife by magic, a newspaper in the Gulf Kingdom said on Thursday.

The five, including a woman, were admitted into the old couple’s house in the capital Riyadh, where they pretended to be preparing amulets that can cure diseases, the Arabic language daily Sharq said.

“They disappeared with nearly SR1.1 million from the man’s house…police later arrested them and found talismans and other magic items in their possession,” the paper added without specifying their nationality.
