Liquor seized on Saudi-Bahrain bridge

Saudi customs authorities seized more than 400 liquor bottles hidden in different parts of a van coming from neighbouring Bahrain on the 25-km causeway linking the two Gulf countries, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

“The bottles were concealed expertly inside the internal parts of the van,” said Fahd Al Otaibi, director general of the customs on King Fahd Causeway.

He told 'Sabq' newspaper that authorities also seized nearly 83 litres of liquor hidden inside the spare fuel tank of a van using the bridge on the same day.

Alcohol is strictly banned in Saudi Arabia, one of the most conservative Muslim nations.
