Doctors at a Saudi hospital treated a 9-year-old local girl for bleeding and discharged her without diagnosing she had a bullet inside her body.
A week later the medics discovered the bullet in her abdomen, but have allegedly informed her parents that the child will have to “live with the bullet in her body”.
Initially, Ghadeer was rushed to hospital in the western Saudi town of Taif after she started bleeding in her back.
The parents told the doctors that they believe she was hit by fireworks while she was playing on the rooftop of her house during Eid holidays.
Doctors stopped the bleeding by stitching up the wound and sent the girl back home after prescribing her antibiotics and other medicines.
However, a week later, Ghadeer began to feel excruciating pains throughout her body, and once again her parents rushed her to the same hospital.
“A X-Ray was taken and we were shocked to hear that my sister has a bullet in her abdomen,” her brother Ali was quoted as saying by Al Saudeh daily.
“We still don’t know how she got the bullet inside her body, but the big shock was that doctors told us they cannot remove the bullet as this would endanger her life and that my sister should keep taking the medicine and live with having the bullet in her body.”
Ali said his family had reported the doctors to health authorities for allowing Ghadeer to leave hospital the first time without knowing there is a bullet inside her body.
The paper said authorities have formed a panel to probe the incident while police were investigating the source of the gunshot.
